Small Group- A Short Documentary

This project combines all multimedia elements: video, photo, audio, and text. For this project, I had to create a documentary-style video that told the story of a group or organization. I decided to tell the story of the women’s golf small group.

Special thank you to Faith Egenolf and the other six girls for letting me film during our small group meetings!

Here is a short news story I wrote that goes along with the video!

The IWU women’s golf team started their own small group this year. They meet every Wednesday during chapel time, where they discuss a devotional given to them by senior Makenna Hostetler.

The devotional dives into the book of Habakkuk and is for people in transition. Each week, the team discusses what they have learned through this devotional. They always start their meetings with prayer and then discuss anything they have learned since their last meeting. These discussions often led to stories from the week and allowed the group to have meaningful conversations.

Junior Faith Egenolf is the small group leader. She said, “Sometimes it would end up being talks about life, and a lot of the weeks someone cried because of the things that were going on in their life. The book helped provoke those deeper conversations.”

Since starting the small group, Egenolf has noticed a change in the team dynamic. At the beginning of the semester, she says the team wasn’t as close, and she felt that something was missing. She noticed that some of her teammates were closer than others, and she felt like they weren’t having enough deep conversations as a team. Now, she says that the team is much closer and has more meaningful conversations.

“I think the small group has been super beneficial to our team,” she said. “It was a really good time for all of us to be vulnerable.”
